We’re fast approaching 2028 primary season—and AOC is making moves to shore up support among the progressive base.
Last month, she announced she had rejoined the DSA after her membership lapsed years ago. It’s something she may have not done in a 2024-like atmosphere, but with DSA candidates winning primaries across the country, it’s now a smart idea.
I explain why in my latest American Conservative column:
Socialism has won Democratic primaries nationwide and will play a major role in the 2028 race. AOC is an opportunist. She knows that reaffirming her DSA credentials is a smart play for ‘28 and could give her the edge she needs to win. It also shows how much Democratic politics have moved closer to the DSA’s agenda. No longer do Democrats need to shy away from Israel criticism or calls to abolish ICE. They’re now within the mainstream of the party.
