The so-called monoculture of previous decades was objectively far less woke and produced significantly higher quality cultural output than what we have today. It's not even particularly close. You keep bringing up "Black or White" by Michael Jackson, but despite that going out to millions, the America of 1991 was still far to the right on every single social issue than the America of today. "Black or White" wouldn't make a dent today not because everyone is 'based' but because it would be just one of a million pieces of entertainment that are leftist and woke. Basically every movie, tv show, and video game produced now is more woke than that song.
We also do still have a form of monoculture via social media. That's why regional cultures are dying (something you've written about yourself) and why the cashier at Dollar General in rural Oklahoma is trans and supports antifa.
Ordinary people had more right-wing views but less of an ability to communicate them or impose them. The country was opposed to more immigration, yet they still got more immigration. This happened in several cases.
It's not so much that the culture is more left-wing but the people are compared to the past. But unlike in the past, there's now more ways to convey our views and they're far more easily communicated.
I have very mixed feelings about this. It feels like we've cut our anchor in the middle of a storm; yes it was dragging us under, but eventually we're going to need a new anchor. Life realistically isn't going to get harder, to the point where the average person relearns their survival instincts, anytime soon. Nor should we wish to return to that state, as many accelerationists would have it. So I see this going in one of three ways, at least two of which are bad:
1. The elites adapt to the new political environment, and use "divide-and-conquer" strategies to control us group-by-group.
2. The elites use AI, another pandemic, a world war, a compulsory global religion, or some other mass formation strategy to force us into a different monoculture of their making.
3. Trump, his allies, similar right-wingers who learn to successfully replicate his tactics (he is 80 years old so someone will have to eventually), or simply a coalition of the not-so-retarded pragmatic political types, form a dominant political party out of the old republican shell that stabilizes American politics and allows the growth of a center-right nationalist monoculture where woke ideas are socially radioactive.
I want #3 (probably), I fear #2, but I think #1 is most likely.
The decline of monoculture will perforce mean the further entrenchment of multi-culture and it's a big gamble if someone wants to believe this will benefit whites. Appeals to universalism may have emboldened the enemy in order to use it for their cynical purposes, but it also (at least in theory, if not always in practice) put guardrails on how far they could go in terms of white dispossession. The only reason many right wingers want to celebrate monoculture's demise is because they think among the wreckage and rumble it will give them the opportunity to impose little based mini theocracies (muh states rights) or have their sun down towns but at what cost? South Africa, a once prosperous, clean safe first world country is now a garbage dump so that we can have Orania? Yaaay? My guess is no one will be dancing on monoculture's grave once the brave new world of post 2028 comes along. This is more than a little short sighted on Greer's part.
