Jesse Helms I feel is most remembered for that 1990 Harvey Gant ad. Affirmative action was rightly displayed as a job stealer to Whites, and Democrats still brought up that ad 20 years later as so off base.
Fuck Jesse Helms, but I'll give him this much. At least the moral nannies of yesteryear had sensible racial views, as opposed to Tucker, Alex Jones and company. Shockley would be much more interesting as an IQ supplement, as he understood that an oppressive social agenda (porn ban, abortion, etc.) is basically irrelevant to dealing with the black problem. It's a shame that if Helms was willing to listen to Shockley on race, he wouldn't listen to him on anything else. If Helms campaigned against abortion, he actually promoted something that exacerbated the black crime problem far more than integration (which I also oppose). Ironic, that.
