My understanding of it, admittedly subjective, is that people are rediscovering him less as a political force than as a proto-martyr of the then-burgeoning power of the deep state. I read Geof Shepard's The Nixon Conspiracy last year, and even if you only believed a quarter of it, a lot of the media narrative machine we usually assume is a modern invention was already up and active sixty years ago.

You don't have to think he was a political powerhouse to find him him worthy of reevaluation.
