Normies discuss politics and history the same way I discuss "great cars". I know little about cars except the basics. Imagine putting me on a podcast about cars and all I can do is say that "Uh, the '68 Mustang was the BEST" while real car guys roll their eyes.
Problem is that political discourse gets directed towards normies, so any normie who consumes the news thinks he knows what's happening. Not just normies, but midwits too. Midwits think they're experts. So DR guys like us look at them yammering about politics and we're rolling OUR eyes.
Sports is another area where there is a lot of normie engagement and a minority of people who actually know what's happening. I imagine that's why old sports scouts or coaches are so grumpy. They are always surrounded by sports know-it-alls.
Everything you said is true, but it is worth noting how far (relatively speaking) perceptions have come on this and related topics. Views that are now almost de rigeur for online rightists, especially for young rightist men, were twenty years ago found only in mailing-list xeroxed schizo newsletters with names like “Friends of the Eagle”.
Still a long way to go, but we’re making progress.
It’s a good article, but I have to disagree with the notion that most normies lionize John Brown. I’ve never seen a normal person irl or even on the internet praise Brown. I doubt most even know who he is.
“JFK was a liberal who pushed for America to see itself as a ‘nation of immigrants.’”
Pretty good piece, certainly interesting, but the above claim that JFK was a “liberal” is not accurate.
At least in terms of how the term is understood in the 21st century.
JFK was a Democrat, of course, but almost all of his positions were notably to the right of today’s Democrat Party, and he has *much* more in common with today’s center-right than the typical progressive.
P.S. I completely understand Luna’s first post association, but the 2nd one that included Malcolm X was indeed inexplicable and just stupid.
No, JFK was a liberal who advocated for the civil rights regime, mass immigration, greater union power, and New Deal economics. He's only to the "right" on issues that were not even discussed at his time, such as gay marriage and abortion. His brother was reliably socially liberal as these matters became issues, indicating what JFK would've been like if he had lived longer.
The racial mongrelization has just sort of honed American identity on to a really idiotic stereotype of "freedom". John Brown was like Spartacus to people like this, he was a good guy because he fought people trying to take other's "freedom" away. Normies even have their own version of political incorrectness where it's like HOT TAKE but killing people who take away others right to exist is not good but maybe sometimes le necessary.
I honestly don't give a shit if these people support nominal right wing causes, they're still woke. Hate being surrounded by woke people even if there is some right wing deep state. Fuck that.
Excellent post. We should continue to try and rewrite the normies view of history but more importantly, and easier, is to write the present from our perspective for future normies.
Everyone wants to be loved. So they lie to themselves, minute by minute, telling themselves kumbaya, so they will be loved in turn. It’s pretty sickening.
I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. Gillis was cancelled like 7 years ago and is now pretty much enjoyed by anybody not on the far left. That’s a good thing if not an ideal state.
As Scott mentioned above, woke isn’t dead but it’s certainly come down a peg in the overall cultural zeitgeist, for lack of a better term.

Boomers go absolutely insane when Vivek says the content of character MLK quote.
Our work isn't done until the average American sees Robert E Lee as his personal role model, and MLK as a communist rake.

JFK was murdered due to his stance against Israel. That omission is quite noticeable.
Fact check: false
Yawn..truth can only be suppressed for so long..
Go listen to his episode with Thomas777 on that
With backers like this, Scott, maybe you shouldn’t be dissing “normies” as the more problematic ones…

I agree good article
What are the hallmark dissident right historical/historiographical works? “Age of Entitlement” comes to mind - anything else?

White wine spritzer…spritzer.spritzer…
Damn I would’ve thought that came from well before that.
I guess I’ll have to settle for a nice glass of warm milk and a full frontal lobotomy as punishment.
