Great episode, I think the mixed feelings began even earlier though. You can see in Jefferson’s notes on Virginia, written during the revolution iirc, that he believes Americans would quickly lose their zeal for liberty in favor of commercial interests post-revolution. I’d have to re-read those passages though if I were to say he thought it was something inevitable.
I am not like anti founders but we need to move past them as the only focus. Anti tax libertarianism isn't what is needed now. I know some try to paint the founders in a more nationalist light the big issue is they took things like demographics for granted and didn't consider the possibility of it being challenged to much about early America was just assumed and not protected.
I love Scott for going after the anti property tax boomers I will take it a step further and defend Income tax. You hear all the time about abolishing income tax and replacing it with consumption taxes. This has a major issue..... Children, children consume they do not produce income so parents will be on the hook for the taxes on their children's goods while the childless career woman gets a tax cut and there will be no child tax credit since that is inherently tied to income tax. I think that this consumption tax fetish needs to fucking die and anyone who pushes it is no different then the climate cultist telling you to stop having kids.
Wrong, as usual. The founders literally said only whites could be citizens and if we'd followed that, we wouldn't be where we are. We're in this mess because we 'moved passed them' to borrow your phrase.
Very good again.

I've been enjoying the recent history episodes. Thank you!
This was a good episode. Thank you!
could you do an iq supplement on Franz Joseph Strauss?
We'll probably do another podcast on cold war German politics which would feature him
