The Old Guard Is Not the Right’s Future
Only a MAGA leader can hold conservatives together after Trump.
There’s much discussion over what the post-Trump GOP will look like. The Manhattan Institute wishes that it would resemble the pre-Trump GOP, and is pushing a new survey to insist that’s what the rank-and-file wants.
I dispute this in my latest American Conservative column:
[T]he point being made by the Manhattan Institute is not simply that the offline right is very different from what we see on X. It’s that ordinary Republican voters want the old GOP back. The purpose of contrasting ordinary Republicans with the extremes of the online right is to subtly revive the lame conservatism Trump defeated in his primary battles.

Good article. The Old Right needs to grit their teeth and pass the torch to a younger, more radical (but more focused) Trump. If they refuse, the republic dies forever.
The thing is though a lot of Trumpism is propped up by Trump himself and his let's be honest cult of personality there are a ton of normie voters who have no ideological allegiance to maga they just think trump doing that dance to YMCA is funny
I do not think they will go for Vance a quiet technocrat.
