My most important issue is banning abortion. Abortion bans are unpopular; if we make the election a referendum on abortion, we lose and babies die.
But pro life politicians are more popular than pro life laws. We can ban abortion at the state level and work to change the culture to advance a national ban in the future. That's only possible if Democrats are kept out of power.
Trump got Roe overturned. I will remind my Catholic and Evangelical friends of this.
Scott, wonderful article. I think what annoys me the most is the lack of self-awareness on the part of many of these individuals when they advocate for these policies despite it being political cancer. Do you think it’s gas-lighting to ensure they still get donations, they are delusional, or they are just closeted democrats? I know so many pro-life people that agree with us on nothing but somewhat reluctantly vote Republican. So many of those people mention that they just want a pro-life Democrat.
Some people are disingenuous, but this is the minority in my experience.
A lot of Christians have idealistic views of how politics should work. The people making the best arguments and have the best intentions and the best character should be more successful. But that's not how the world works.
Most pro lifers are onboard the Trump train. But there are people uncomfortable with Trump's temperament and they're sensitive to stories accusing Trump of not being pro life enough.
Completely agree, social conservatism is very important to me as well, but going forward conservatives need to understand that state power being used to advance those means doesn’t work and has the opposite effect of instigating a left wing reaction. Social conservatism needs to be advanced through social/cultural changes.
Pro life laws are effective in states with the right political conditions.
14 states ban abortion at conception. 4 states ban abortion once a heartbeat can be detected at six weeks. Democrats promise to wipe out pro life laws if they gain full control of government. Even if a swing state Republican does not advance pro life laws on a national level, doing nothing blocks Democrats and preserves state wide abortion bans.
We don't need Trump to pass any laws. We need him so Democrats can't pass their own laws.
Great article Scott! I know you have spoken about this before but I think it is important to emphasize that 1-issue pro life voters are often only in our coaltion because they apply libtard "we must champion the oppreseed" logic to babies. They're subversive and I'd rather they be openly hostile rather than distract the core movement.
Scott is correct.

It's complicated.
