Good article. Metal had its heyday in the 70s - 90s where it was much more acceptable for artists to be apolitical / neutral than in the hyper politicized post-9/11 era. I know the conservative establishment of the 80s mostly hated metal (Reagan, Bush, Thatcher) but so did Tipper Gore.
Inquiring minds want to know: where does Anal Cunt fit on the left-right axis?
Songs like "Hitler Was A Sensitive Man" seem to endorse whiteness, but "Caring About Anything Is Gay" is a striking rebuke to diligence/punctuality/hard work, etc.
There’s this one interview where Anal Cunt’s singer was going off on Jews and that Mel Gibson deserved an award for his Jewish comments. The interviewer then asked him if he was pro-Palestine and he said “What?”
Good piece. But, in your talk about NSBM, you neglected to mention the unapologetic anti-Semitism of Grand Belial's Key or the blatant Nazism of Der Sturmer.
With that said, good piece, but I wish you'd mention some bands' schizophrenic messaging; like Slayer putting both the anti-Christian "Read Between the Lies" and anti-abortion "Silent Scream" on South of Heaven.
You also didn't mention the pair of anti-racist songs Pantera did on Vulgar.
This is so spot on. When making art, it is of the utmost importance that the work itself be the focus and the message be embedded in the work. It’s easy for people like us to see the subversive, left wing political messaging in music, movies, TV etc. from the past as well as the present. For most Normies, however, they just vibe with it or they don’t. The message seeps into their subconscious, which is the magic of such cultural products. If folks on our side want to compete in the cultural struggle, downstream of which I believe lies political power, we must take these lessons to heart.
Stephen King’s The Shining is an immensely entertaining book with an equally enjoyable movie adaptation. The typical consumer doesn’t notice the anti-White, feminist, anti-nuclear family propagandistic themes that permeate the story. They just enjoy the experience of reading, listening (to the book), or watching (the movie). Even so, the message is received somewhere in the unconscious mind of the consumer. This type of content has been funneled into our brains from our earliest memories and to great effect. This is why it is so important to the political left to monopolize the choke points of art and culture. However, this is not a fait accompli. The right long ago gave up the arts and ceded that crucial ground to the left. It does not have the be that way. If you are a creative, perfect your craft and create artwork that will connect with the young and infuse it with your sincerely held beliefs and values. It will be a formidable weapon in our hands in the historical and existential struggles to come.
The greatest musicians and the best bands tend to be left wing. This is a sad fact of life. They need supporters like politicians do, and that selects for "open minded" people. Even country musicians.
Hi IQ rundown of the genre. Super intelligent 👌

Very tough to pin them down.

the grindcore documentary I linked to talks a lot about Putnam. He just liked pissing people off. No real politics.

A lot of great points about what Metal is here. One thing you forgot to add is that it sounds bad
wrong

Metal is just country music for misfits.
less takes, more taake
A moment of silence for all the Indian teenagers in the 90s head banging to Panthera
So true!
