I wish Scott's commentary on the Boomer ideology touched on their infamously bad advice to younger people on finding a job--especially to millennials in the wake of the Great Recession--was "Just look the manager in the eye and give him a firm handshake!" (This is how they got their first job sweeping the floor of the local malt shop in 1963.)

Sapir whorf hypothesis sounds plausible for the same reason blank slatism does, since both suggest you can shape people entirely through culture. It came from studies of isolated groups cut off linguistically and geographically, who lacked words for some things and had no complex civilization. Linguists saw this as proof that language limits thought, not that the people were cognitively lacking. But that claim is unverifiable, you can’t measure someone else’s perception. so the idea remains just a hypothesis and not a very meaningful one
