(Editor’s note: This is the draft of the speech I delivered at VDARE’s 2024 Conference. The remarks I actually delivered are different because I spoke mostly off-the-cuff. But this draft illustrates the gist of the talk and what I wanted to convey to the audience. A video and transcript of the speech should be published soon.)
If Donald Trump wins in November, it will be a massive victory for the Right. Here is a man facing several politically-motivated indictments and who was once banned from every social media platform–and he somehow won. The symbolism of such an event alone should make one want it to happen.
Some right-wingers may dismiss a second-term Trump as pointless. But they would be mistaken. A Trump victory would be both significant symbolically and in actual policy accomplishments. It would be a bigger boost to the Right than his first victory in 2016. Moreover, it would be a serious setback for nationalists if he lost.
This talk will focus on how a Trump presidency will advance the identity issues we all care about.
Let’s start with immigration. Trump’s first term marked the first time immigration had been positively addressed since the Eisenhower administration. Every president before Trump watched immigration increase without doing a damn thing. Trump actually brought down immigration. Near the end of his term, the media reported that the Donald had cut legal immigration by 49 percent. He did this entirely through executive action.
He brought down refugee totals from nearly 100,000 under Obama to a record-low of 15,000. He made it harder for legal immigrants to get here with the public charge rule, which prohibited migrants likely to be on government assistance from receiving green cards, and other beefed up restrictions. These rules led to a remarkably decreased number of H1b holders and other guest workers. He also instituted a travel ban that limited migration from several Muslim-majority countries. During the lockdowns, he imposed an immigration moratorium that protected American jobs.
On illegal immigration, he instituted Remain in Mexico that kept alleged asylum seekers out of the country. He also appropriated parts of the Defense budget to spend on a border wall. Of course, it wasn’t completed. But Trump did actually enforce the law and deport illegals who were here. Compared to the current administration, that’s very impressive.
Trump pledges to correct the problems of Biden if he returns to office. He promises to bring back all the good things from his previous term, along with mass deportations, the restoration of Title 42, the termination of temporary protected status, and the elimination of birthright citizenship. When Trump hits the trail, he hammers the immigration issue. Sometimes this gets him into trouble, such as when he insists that migrants are poisoning the blood of the country. He knows this is his most potent issue in the election. Republican primary voters ranked it their top issue, and voters overall favor Trump to handle this issue over Biden.
Every politician loves to say that the country’s future is on the line in the next election. “You better vote like your life depends on it!” It’s a cliche. But we literally can’t risk another four years of Biden. An estimated 10 million illegal immigrants have come into the country under the current president. Millions more have come legally. We’ve had more immigrants to this country in three years than we’ve had in extended periods of our country’s history. This is only going to continue if Biden stays president. Will we still be America if we end up adding over 30 million foreigners to our country after eight years of Biden?
There’s also a good chance we get some form of Amnesty if Biden stays president. The terrible immigration “deal” the Senate unveiled earlier this year could be resuscitated if Biden gets another term and his party takes back the House. This plan accepts that the new normal is 150,000 migrants crossing our border every month–and we only do something about it if it exceeds that number. Worse, it allows for these illegals to get legal status. Pretty much every illegal who crosses claims they’re seeking asylum in the US. The Senate deal offered a creative solution to clearing up the backlog of asylum cases: Take them away from judges and give them to asylum officers. These liberal bureaucrats will obviously be lenient toward these dubious asylum seekers and happily grant them legal status. This is a backdoor Amnesty where the admin legalizes millions of illegals without any input from Congress.
That’s the nightmare of a second-term Biden. At least with Trump we get a fighting chance to solve these problems.
There is an area where Trump can end one of the most destructive aspects of modern American life–and that’s affirmative action. The Supreme Court’s decision to strike it down in university admissions has opened up a world of possibilities. Already this decision is being used to attack hiring quotas and how the government doles out grants on a racial basis. A president committed to erasing affirmative action could easily weaponize the federal government to wipe out affirmative action as we know it. All it takes is some competent bureaucrats and a lot of lawsuits against universities and businesses that violate the spirit of the SCOTUS ruling.
Trump is already committed to eradicating the related element of DEI. Late in his last administration, he started to wipe out Critical Race Theory from the government. His effort was cut short by his departure from office. He looks poised to finish the job in a second term. In January, Trump proclaimed to a rally: “We will terminate every diversity, equity and inclusion program across the entire federal government.” His words are backed up by a plan. Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025, which aims to provide the policy basis and staffers for the next Trump admin, already has an anti-DEI strategy in place. Its suggestions include:
Bar the federal government and government contractors from using taxpayer dollars to conduct training about systemic racism.
Abolish the Labor Department’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, which is responsible for ensuring that federal contractors comply with antidiscrimination laws.
Eliminate “disparate impact” liability – evaluating whether the impact of a policy varies based on race, ethnicity or other factors, even if the conscious intent was not to treat people differently.
Prohibit racial classifications and quotas and halt the collection of employment data on the racial and ethnic makeup of the American private sector workforce.
All of this would help put affirmative action in the dustbin.
Trump would likely do a lot of other good in areas such as foreign policy. But VDARE’s audience, just like myself, is primarily concerned with the identity issues above all else. Trump will definitely advance the cause here.
Beyond tangible progress on policy, a Trump win will be a tremendous symbolic victory for our side. As previously alluded to, Trump has suffered a lot of setbacks in the last few years. He was impeached for a second time. He was kicked off pretty much every social media platform. He suffered a devastating loss in civil court. He has been indicted four separate times in criminal cases. He is the enemy of the regime, yet he continues to lead the polls.
This is a nightmare for the Left. Not because Trump will realize all their worst fears and inaugurate the thousand year Mar-a-Lago Reich. It’s because a Trump win shows that the Left doesn’t hold all the power in this country. It would demonstrate that the people still have the capacity to reject the Left’s dictates and choose the ultimate antagonist to the liberal worldview.
It’s great to own the libs, but more important it gives our side a morale boost. We’ve suffered too many blackpills in recent years. The George Floyd riots, the 2020 election, the hysterical response to J6, the lockdowns, the country being programmed into Ukraine fans overnight, the midterms, etc. It’s time to have a win. Some on the Right claim it’s better for there to be an unending series of defeats so the masses eventually “wake up.” The problem with this strategy is that it’s more likely to lead to demoralization than radicalization. America is not 1917 Russia. People are not starving in the streets or dying in the trenches. People instead have enough disposable income and access to cheap credit to blow it all on OnlyFans and DraftKings. If people feel that politics is hopeless, they will divert their attention to other activities. They won’t suddenly work toward a revolution.
Of course, there will be exceptions. But, for most, they will just accept the new paradigm and focus on the big game.
Love or hate Trump, he offers hope. He is certainly not perfect, and his first term certainly had its fair share of disappointments. But he’s the only realistic political option we have right now. And if he wins in November, it opens up many opportunities for the true Right and pushes the mainstream more into our direction.
That’s why we should want Trump to win.
I preferred DeSantis in early 2023. Not ashamed to admit it.
But Scott was right to prefer Trump. The former president earned the nomination, and he'd be outstanding in a second term.
I'll do everything I can to help Trump win NC.
Also an increase in Hispanic share and winning on anti immigration will forever change the Republican Party. Plus he will endorse more nationalist candidates changing the makeup of the party.
