As a Cuck Island resident it's amusing to see millions upon millions of Brits with views more right wing than Trump on immigration but they don't like him as a person. The news focuses on negatives only and portrays him as a buffoon. If actually talk to these people they won't disagree with Trump but media propaganda presents him as a cartoon, a caricature of America excesses.

European media still think Fox News is far right

Your comment about Western-Europeans is entirely accurate. I am from Norway (which is on Northern Europe and have the most left wing mainstream media imaginable) but I’ve lived in Germany, the Netherlands and England and the media is fairly similar when it comes to US political coverage. They all usually site CNN, The Washington Post and WSJ in their sources for their articles. I remember the more Right Wing media in the UK even being pretty anti-Trump in the 2020 elections and before.

I just can't see Trump doing worse with whites this cycle than in 2020. My base case is he does slightly better.

Yes, young white women are trending even more strongly away from Republicans than in 2020, but Joe Biden had a real appeal to older whites, especially in the Midwest and Rust Belt, that Kamala completely lacks. A lot of older whites also succumbed to the media's Covid fear porn, which turned them against Trump. I just can't see those older white voters voting for Kamala in 2024, and I think that's at least enough to make up for the leftward shift of young white women.

There's also Sam Francis's argument that Republican presidential candidates in the modern (post-Civil Rights) era have always succeeded in picking up more of the white vote when they (explicitly or implicitly) race-bait in their campaign, and do poorly when they refuse to dogwhistle.

Even though he made that argument in the 90s, I think you can still see it in the outcomes of the 2004, 08, 12, 16, and 20 campaigns. And tbh, I don't know if there's been a major party presidential campaign that has race-baited harder than the 2024 Trump campaign since Wallace.

PS

Happy birthday, Scott! Hope we see a Trump win for your birthday, even if it is a bit belated.
