Why ‘Nothing Ever Happens’
Our country is too stable for civil war, revolution, or mass libtard arrests
Many thought that we came within an inch of civil war when Donald Trump avoided assasination last year. It was assumed that our public order could be completely derailed by such an event.
It’s one of the great-ifs of American history. What would have happened if Trump had died? Would we have descended into civil war and the social order been overturned?
The answer is no. Our social order is too strong at the moment for one such event to overturn it. America can withstand horrifying terror attacks, devastating assassination, and deadly natural disasters with hardly any lasting damage. Things happen here and not everything remains the same. But some may conclude “nothing ever happens” if no civil war or revolution breaks out after such events. The meme phrase has a point.
If Trump hadn’t moved his head right in the nick of time last year, “nothing” would have happened. His supporters would’ve been devastated, there would’ve been a lot of anger online, people would’ve tweeted for a civil war, but no real unrest would’ve occurred. There would be no mass violence or civil conflict. It would have changed history, but the social order would’ve persevered and people would carry on with their regular lives. It would have been an extremely blackpilling moment for those who wanted to make America great again and there would have been no consolation from it. Thankfully, Trump moved right in time and history is better for it.
We got a glimpse into what could’ve happened with the Charlie Kirk assassination. The murder horrified the nation and prompted calls for the government to do an extensive crackdown on the far-left. Some on the Right and the Left saw this as a moment that could upend the social order and lead to a new one–to the joy of right-wingers and the dismay of leftists. While the Trump admin has declared Antifa a domestic terror group and the feds are starting to arrest anti-ICE demonstrators, this hasn’t amounted to the mass arrests people hoped for. The Left still exists in America. We haven’t transitioned into a fascist dictatorship. Ordinary life is the same as it was before.
Many right-wingers are angry about this, fearing this shows a sign of how weak the Trump administration is. Legal hurdles aren’t considered, nor is the fact that there aren’t centralized groups of left-wing terrorists to round up. One can’t reasonably expect the FBI to arrest every Democrat and late-night talk show host over failure to condemn Antifa, but that seems to be the demand of some. The fact the undeliverable isn’t being delivered is driving some to lament that “nothing ever happens.”
Certainly things happen, like the Kirk assassination, the war in Gaza, Trump sending the National Guard into cities, etc. But none of them really disrupt regular life in America. The order carries on and things largely the same. For “nothing ever happens” to be disproven, there would need to be a world war, a domestic revolution, a civil war, or an economic collapse to occur. But, so far, none of these things have come to pass. Thus, nothing ever happens.
For the vast majority of Americans, this is a good thing. They don’t want a revolution or an economic collapse. They want stability and prosperity. It’s reassuring for them to know that we can have horrifying terror attacks and assassinations but life will go on as it always does. It’s not a good thing to those on the political extremes who want “something” to happen either to gain power or just for the hell of it.
In other countries and in other times, an assassination of a powerful political figure could trigger a crisis. The Spanish Civil War, for instance, started over a political murder. Entire governments can fall and hundreds of thousands can die over such an event. But in America, we move on.
Dozens of libtards did lose their jobs for celebrating Kirk’s death. That’s likely going to be the closest we see to mass arrests. While conservatives see a crisis here, their attention is to this topic is starting to fade. The general public has already moved on. This is a tragedy for them, not a crisis. There isn’t quite a mandate to arrest all libtards. Voters are worried about the rising tensions in the country, but it isn’t reflected in mass actions, such as giant demonstrations or riots. The public is more tuned out of current events. They just want to watch football or play video games. It’s hard to get them worked up about left-wing extremism. To the average person not plugged into conservative media, they think this doesn’t directly affect them.
That’s the power of America. Citizens have the luxury to ignore major domestic and world events. They usually don’t affect their job, their neighborhood, or their social life. Their peers aren’t rioting or threatening to kill them over these events. They’ll only lose their job if they idiotically praise the Kirk assassin. If they keep their head down, life goes on as usual. And that’s what the vast majority do.
People only go crazy or back radical state actions when they feel directly threatened. America backed the Palmer Raids when Americans feared the Bolshevik Revolution spreading to our country. Americans backed “McCarthyism” in response to the global communist menace. The Silent Majority endorsed aggressive measures against rioters and campus radicals when cities and universities were under siege in the late 1960s.
While left-wing terrorism is certainly on the rise, it hasn’t made the public as scared as the Bolsheviks and black militants did. It’s even harder to identify the threats now. In the 1960s, the Black Panthers and crazy hippies were well-known and frowned upon. We just have anonymous Discord chats and a hazy idea of what Antifa is. There’s not a clearly identifiable target demographic for mass arrests.
America is quite possibly the most stable society in human history–at least in terms of not offering fertile ground for revolutions and civil wars. The state remains very strong. There aren’t any non-state actors that can challenge its authority. The people are disorganized and atomized. Many of them have a stake in the status quo, whether it’s a home, a job, a 401k, and so on and so forth. We’re a historically elderly country where young men–the source of revolutions–are relatively small in number, less valued, and more neutralized. We don’t have to worry about student riots anymore.
“Something happens” when a society faces genuine crises. Interwar Europe was beset by governments with weak legitimacy, institutions and movements that could challenge its authority, a horrible economy, the lingering devastation of World War I, fears of communism, and numerous other problems. Many third world countries around the world face similar woes and risk a happening. We don’t.
Of course, those wanting mass arrests of libtards don’t want the people to rise up. They want the state to do the work for them. But the state realizes that that move risks upsetting the people too much. It rocks the boat. It undermines the status quo. A frightened populace isn’t good for the economy and public stability. Immediately after the 9/11 terror attacks, George W. Bush pleaded for Americans to go shopping. Americans listened, and the economy kept moving. The attachment to stability remains strong in the country in the face of all manners of disaster. When a crisis strikes, our country doesn’t accelerate off the cliff into radical change–it clings to the foundations of our social order.
There is one example of a recent happening–and it wasn’t good for the Right. 2020 presented multiple happenings, and all of them were terrible. COVID, the lockdowns, the Summer of Floyd, the rigged election, and January 6 were all used to further accelerate the Left’s control over the control and suppress the Right. People went nuts and started believing absolutely deranged things. We didn’t get a “fascist takeover.” We forced infants to wear masks outdoors and watched FBI agents kneel before BLM rioters.
None of this is meant to say that nothing truly happens. Plenty of things happen. We’ve seen many big changes over the past few years. Roe v. Wade was overturned, affirmative action was gutted, Afrikaners became our only refugees, current illegal immigration was reduced to a negligible amount, DEI was effectively banned, and an expansive tariff regime was introduced. But none of these caused a revolution to occur. They make a difference, but they’re not what the earth shattering events online people claim they desire.
Only an economic collapse, a nuclear strike, or a foreign invasion could lead to the type of happening the political extremes want. And it could very well be a nightmare for them.
In the meantime, we can push for positive change that makes the country a better place. Trump has the opportunity to do serious damage to left-wing extremism and cripple the organizations that aid and abet it. Just don’t expect mass arrests of libtards to happen. It’s not something our comfortable society can handle.
Whenever I find myself thinking that a "happening" is going to take place, I think back to when I was checking the midterm election results while at work in 2022. My coworker asked what the maps I was looking at displayed, and I explained the how Dems did decently well, etc.
His response? "How's Trump doing? I hope he wins again"
For as much as us in the online political sphere like to spout off comparing 21st century America to Weimar, civil war Spain, and so forth, the typical American's political engagement extends very little beyond experiencing mild amusement/disgust whenever they see Orange Man pop up in an Instagram feed full of beauty products, NFL highlights, and AI slop.
This is an excellent article. For once, a guy who in his heart is hard-core against the left recognizes the difficulties of simply putting them all on a barge and sinking them in the Bering Strait, which I would like to do. No, we need to dismantle their sleazy conspiracy legally, one day at a time. The American people will not lift a finger to stop Trump from taking out the garbage, as the saying goes. The leftists will howl and scream. A few lunatics will start shooting people. It will all come to nothing. The "Progressive (Marxist)" spell is broken and it ain't coming back.
