Another thing about populist inc is that when they make the case for "Trumpism without Trump," they pretty much say he was the worst president ever who never accomplished anything. That probably doesn't do anything besides piss off the base. You'd think they would try to say something that is less irritating, like that he shouldn't run because he is banned from most things and wouldn't be able to get his message out.

they're just returning to their anti-Trump roots

Exactly. If they were smart and not purely vindictive they would say something along the lines of "Trumpism without mean tweets" or Trump policies without his boorish behavior [sic]. But they're broken. Even Ann Coulter can't get over her TDS. Sad!

Good episode. Very glad to be proven wrong on the doomer "election is rigged" stuff.

Also exit polls are garbage. Youngkin definitely outperformed Trump with Hispanics but he probably isn’t winning NOVA Salvadorans outright.

And Youngkin DEFINITELY outperformed Trump with college whites across the board.

You aren’t getting within 10 points in Loudoun or Manassas like Youngkin without significantly outperforming Trump/Gillespie with college white women or Hispanics.

Here is Pedro Gonzalez defending the whitelash on Twitter and making the argument I believe Jared Taylor has made before. If you are going to attack white people as a group, don't be surprised if they start acting as a group in self defense.

Also, J.D. Vance gave a speech at the National Conservatism conference last night calling universities "our enemy." This is significant step, but I haven't seen much of a plan beyond things like calling for a ban on CRT in schools. Youngkin will push charter schools, which are probably a harmless waste of money. Does anyone have a plan to break the education cartel? What do you think a feasible plan to do that would look like?

A way to break would be to further deprive them of money via vouchers. Would be big move if he pushed vouchers that could also be used for homeschooling co-ops.

In a recent tweet and also in an episode of Highly Respected, you claimed that Gavin Newsom would be the best candidate Democrats could put up in 2024. I disagree.

Newsom would play terribly as a presidential candidate. He has negative appeal to WWC voters and only someone like Kamala would do worse with them, does meh in the suburbs that aren’t in places like Boston or SFO, and would collapse with non whites- he underperformed with them even in CA (mostly with Hispanics, whom moved rightwards post Trump even in Virginia but especially in NJ, contrary to what popular myths or CNN exits will tell you).

It would also be very easy for Republicans to portray him as a Bay Area radical. He’d be an abysmal candidate and Republicans shouldn’t fear him in 2024. DeSantis or Trump would probably defeat him easily.

Democrats don't need WWC voters. He'd probably do about as well in the suburbs as Biden and probably would do better among younger voters than Biden. Charisma can go a long way

I don’t know, he underperformed Hillary in the suburbs in 2018 and Biden in the suburbs in 2021. And that’s in CALIFORNIA of all places.

I don't know that we should be taking a CA recall as a 1:1 with Presidential elections, especially ones that include Trump. CA is a weird place that seems to launch recalls often & the sort of radical plague politics that animated the most recent effort will likely be gone by 2024. What with differences in issues & inherent differences in turnout, I'm not really sure we can comfortably dismiss him. He's certainly stronger than Biden, Kamala, Buttigieg (lol), or Bernie (who probably won't run).
